Mechanical Universe is a new exhibition reconfigured from an early period installation work titled, Chassis Driven Slip, Touched Universe Combined. Large-scale upright sculptures with ambient light and kinetic elements will be installed in the gallery along with Blue Velvet, work from the exhibition Kinetics, (2003–2006) in the diorama. This bold sculptural work is influenced and inspired by Russian Cubo-Futurism, Art Brut, and Black Mountain College, artists like Malevich, Tatlin, Rauschenberg, and Stella. Mechanical Universe uses mixed media and colour, hardware store materials, recycled and found objects.
During the November Blim residency Vancouver artist Jeremy Isao Speier will design a limited edition Blue Velvet (2008) custom shirt. As part of the Blim residency Artist-Talk he will discuss his work and interest in kinetic sculpture and film. For Flim and the film component of the Blim residency he will present a film night where he will be screening his first film in a trilogy of films, Oratory, [2005] paired with a feature art film, Oedipus Rex [1967] by Pasolini.
