A magician creates kites. Those kites travel and eventually perch on the top of a tree in an orchard in a small Japanese village… Nine Widows is written by Jarrett Kennedy and illustrated by Madoka Hara.

For the exhibition, selected original illustrations along with the excerpts will be shown. Book launch is scheduled for Friday, November 27th!

Jarrett Kennedy writes stories greatly influenced by dreams, the imagination and his stories often include bizarre or fantastical problems or situations. Therefore he feels affinity with most writers and non-writers who explore these ideas. Influences or inspirations may include Edogawa Rampo, Haruki Murakami, Italo Calvino, Roald Dahl and many others. Jarrett Kennedy lives and works in Victoria and has just finished a bookof short stories illustrated by various artists from across Canada and the US.

Madoka Hara‘s self-taught drawing skill and craft-loving spirit are somewhat related to her mini-manga drawing era of her youth and studies in Child Education back in Japan.
Her art work has been shown in Mexico City at ESTACIONARTE 2008, and locally at Blim, the Helen Pitt Gallery and Lucky’s Gallery. Some of her animations have been shown at Powel Street Festival and related events, and her illustrations have been published in the Vancouver Review. www.madokahara.com
