Suno no onna presents a concert of experimental chamber music featuring pieces by composers Jürg Frey (Zürich) and André Cormier (Vancouver). Frey’s Buch der Räume und Zeiten and Cormier’s Bardo both explore minimal and quiet material, as well as the absence of material altogether. However, they articulate these ideas differently. In Buch der Räume und Zeiten (55′), sounds are given time to develop and expose the purest qualities they posses. Bardo (40′) offers a handful of sonic blooms which exist in a meadow of stillness.
Silence, in its comprehensive, monolithic presence always stands as one against an infinite number of sounds or sound forms. Sound and silence both stamp time and space, in that they come into appearance, in an existential sense. Together they comprise the entire complexity of life.
