Blim Guest Series—Computer Music Workshop

Sunday June 27 | 1 – 4 PM | $60 (incl. materials)
Featuring: Nicholas Exterer

This is a workshop about computer music. Participants will learn the basics of manipulating audio in the digital domain in real-time, using the open-source software Pure Data. At the end of the workshop, one will walk away with an instrument or effect they have designed and built themselves and the knowledge to further pursue the electronic arts. Requirements are only a computer (most conveniently for you: a laptop) with a processor running at a minimum of 500 MHz with minimum 256 MB of RAM, a soundcard and headphones. The Mac OS, Windows and Linux operating systems are all supported.

Nicholas Esterer studies Musical Composition and Mathematics at McGill University. As a composer, he has written pieces for acoustic instruments interacting with electronics and built computer-enabled installations for gallery spaces. He has built hardware controllers for creating computer music and given workshops on cassette-tape manipulation. His work puts emphasis on sustainability of materials and the democratization of engineering.
