Blim Guest Series—Quilt Appliqué Workshop

Featuring: Leah Weinstein
Join textile artist Leah Weinstein in this hands on workshop exploring machine appliqué methods for contemporary quilt making. These practical and creative sewing skills can also be applied to clothing. Participants will make a 20″ × 20″ quilt top. Materials are provided, but bring your own sewing machine. Beginners welcome!
We will explore:
- basic quilting materials, tools, and techniques
- creating your own design
- basting, cutting and ironing for machine appliqué
Leah Weinstein is Nelson based textile artist working primarily with quilts. Leah received her Diploma in Fine Art from Emily Carr Institute of Art + Design in 2001, and her BFA in 2008. After making her first quilt in 2001, quilts quickly became the focus of her work. Leah’s extensive travels eventually became her self-directed textile studies, which led her to study natural dyes and organic cotton in India with the company she co-founded, Tenfold Organic Textiles. Leah now works in her home studio and teaches quilting workshops around BC. Her website can be visited at: leahweinstein.com
