From the medium to the subject, Scott Lewis’ exhibition of oil paintings and serigraph prints is wrought with contrast: good and evil, light and dark, humorous and serious. The large scale oil painting from which the exhibition gets its title, serves as the show’s center piece. Bright splashes of colour wash together and form a haunting world of savage beasts and arson. It’s an imaginary landscape that is off set by the inherent realness of the black and white photographs opposite, printed in a high contrast half-tone. Themes of religion and horror-movie campiness unify the work and add an ominous, dark humour.
Scott Lewis lives and works in East Vancouver, BC.
