Artist Trading Cards Trading More Than Art

ATC Make-n-Swap Social at Blim

Featuring: Justin Ray and Yuriko Iga

Collecting art can be an expensive hobby, but Artist Trading Cards make it fun and affordable. Since ATCs are traded by the original artists and not sold, artists only trade with other artists, and they must each create as much as they collect. The social aspect of trading makes an ATC swap the perfect opportunity to meet new people and discuss your practices.

Similar in size to a baseball card, an ATC is a work that measures 2.5″ × 3.5″ made specifically for trading; it may never be sold. There is no restriction on the materials used or subject matter, but they should be original works signed on the back with the artist name and contact information.

The ATC movement originated in Switzerland in the 1990′s and maintains the anti-commercial and non-judgemental sensibility that art is for everyone, not just those who can afford to collect it. At a swap, everyone is equal. There are no superstars and all artwork is equal. Thanks to the integral social function of trading, everyone wins. Trading art is just a part of the experience.

Blim hosts a workshop-style ATC making session followed by a card swap, with support from Opus Framing & Art Supplies.

Work in your own time or with a friend. Make art not waste!
