Maru’s music is a fusion of Japanese folk melodies, jazz, rock, ambient, with a strong accent on improvisation. Instrumentation includes shakuhachi and shinobue (Japanese bamboo flutes), taiko, drum set, vibraphone, didgeridoo, bass, percussion, double reeds (hichiriki, duduk, piri), biwa (Japanese lute), koto (Japanese zither), and vocals.
