Discovered in 1999, Toronto-based techno producer Tomas Jirku hit the ground running when his first two albums, 2000′s Sequins and Variants, were released back-to-back by Force Inc. and Alien8 respectively. Since then, he’s issued albums on a series of Montreal labels, including Alien8 subsidiary Substractif (2001′s Immaterial), Intr_Version Records (2002′s Entropy), and No Type (2003′s Bleak 1999). Often working with fellow Torontonian Robin Judge, the duo has release two albums together on the German label Onitor, 2003′s Plusism and 2005′s Private Eyes. Though the second half of the 2000′s were decidedly quieter for Jirku, he returned last year with a new album, Illectrodubs.

Gunshae is the Panambient project of Canadian dubstep pioneer James “Kuma” Graham and renowned Oboeist and DJ, Eve Mori. Gunshae is what happens when a classically trained musician and a notorious DJ with a pentiant for improvising, jam on the sound of stuff and things. It’s molten woodwinds and Satie references. It’s heavy drones and show tunes played by a band sitting on a veranda after too many mint julips. It’s discrete music for the wifi generation.

Fieldhead is P Elam (a resident of Vancouver, BC). He produces ambient/electronic music that delights in tape hiss, geography, bleak landscapes and decaying analogue loops. He is also a full time member of Hood side project The Declining Winter and a part time member of Glissando’s Fleeting Glimpse Ensemble. He is ably assisted by violinists S Kemp and E Reynolds.

Hong Kong Soap Operas (Vancouver) One day Adrian listened to the ballet score of “The Rite of Spring” by Igor Stravinsky. Another day he saw the John Adams’ opera “Nixon in China”. One day he torrented Finale 2009 and started to write music. Looped bass and orchestral deleriousness.

For its 7th year, the Pan Ambient event series returns to Blim (Pan Ambient Potluck 2006) for a daytime chill out session, Chinatown dim sum style. This event has been connecting artists from around the globe since 2005, through collaboration in ambient electronic music and visual arts. Bringing together the finest that cities around the world have to offer in their artistic community, the revolution occurs from the horizontal position. For the 2011 Pan Ambient Dim Sum, our audience enjoys a relaxed, chill out environment while taking in innovative sights and sounds that represent the underground soul of Vancouver.
