Cascadia, Big Evil, Creative People, So You Think You Can Sleep

Friday September 2 | 8 PM – 12 AM | $5–10 sliding scale | ALL AGES!

Local bands So You Think You Can Sleep (post-structural Marxists), Big EviL (just a standard avant-garde funk band), Creative People (post-punk rappers with upside-down instruments), and Cascadia (wall-of-sound shoegazing duo) play for the benefit of SafeAmp, a non-profit organization dedicated to opening an all-ages music and arts venue in Vancouver.

Cascadia combine elements of grunge, shoegaze, and catchy pop in a compact guitar/drums format. With a strong command of dynamics and textures, their performances are cathartic and brooding.

Creative people are at least above average in intelligence, but not necessarily extraordinarily so. They also can be stubborn, uncooperative, indifferent to conventions and courtesies, and they are likely to argue that the rest of the parade is out of step. Creative people can be careless and disorganized, especially with matters they consider trivial. Some are temperamental and moody; a few cynical, sarcastic, or rebellious. — “Personalities of Creative People” by Gary A. Davis, Ph.D.

Big Evil were forged by a master craftsman in the depths of a volcano, designed solely to provide music that is both large-scale and devoid of good intentions. An anonymous source has stated that Big Evil are “possibly one of the greatest avant-garde funk bands to form in Vancouver so far this year”. All of their songs are about fire, and they do their own choreography.

So You Think You Can Sleep play the best upbeat 20-second Marxist propaganda songs you’ll ever hear.
