Yuriko Iga

Yuriko Iga

Yuriko Iga was born in Winnipeg and raised in Calgary with Japanese parentage. Her experience of the traditional Japanese house and family, combined with her work in the contemporary art field, have led her toward a broadened conception of art as the creation of installation or social space always ignoring the boundary between art, multi-media, design, and life. A graduate of the Alberta College of Art and Design, Yuriko’s many artistic endeavours include running a cafe/gallery in Calgary called Kisaten from 1994–1996; working with the collective Colours for Industry on a multi-media dance piece called Microluft ; and curating a music event called Squibb. Now based out of Vancouver, Yuriko’s recent project is called Blim. Blim is a Community Based Art Resource Center which facilitates screen-printing, button making, drawing, local emerging artists, creative workshops, and crafts in the independent field. Blim also hosts the Blim Market, which is a monthly craft event that houses local handmade craft, art, vintage, and organisations. Blim has been active for 9 years and has now moved to a larger location in historic Chinatown. Yuriko is also an active member of the Powell Street Festival Programming Commitee.

Kaytee Kilgour

Kaytee Kilgour

Kaytee Kilgour is a Vancouver based textile artist specializing in weaving and print. Kaytee has graduated with a Diploma in Textile Arts from Capilano University in 2009 and is now at Emily Carr completing her BFA with a sculpture and textile focus. Much of Kaytee’s work revolves around the preservation of memory and tradition, the art of craft and its significance in contemporary settings.

Kaytee has developed three Level 2 Screen Printing workshops for the crafty folks at Blim, Discharge and Devoré Printing — both are “burn-out” techniques that remove dyes (discharge) and fibres (devore) from fabric — its magical.

The Dye Printing workshop uses the same process as regular water based inks but with fibre reactive dyes. The vibrant colours are set into the cloth permanently leaving the fabric soft to the touch.

Roberta Wover

Roberta Wover

Grew up in Winnipeg and spent most of her time obsessing over the scents of flowers in her grandmothers’ gardens. Soon after completing graduate school she began to formulate her own products as gifts and explore perfumery. Soapmaking is harmony between art and science and it continued to be the medium to express her creativity and grow her expertise. And as her ideas grew, so did her customers who quickly became addicted to her fresh and luxurious products.

A move to Vancouver inspired Roberta to create a natural bath and body line using only premium natural ingredients and illustrated her passion for natural perfumery. Her company, RIPE Artisan Botanicals is available online, through select retailers and at Blim’s monthly community market.
