Ejaculation Death Rattle
An unholy poisoning of ambient, free-folk and pseudo psychedelic primitivism amid sweeping tides of noise,
drone music worship, spastic panning, bent and decayed notes, and assorted digital debris meant to keep everyone
off balance. Deceptively improvised, and/or intentionally contrived? An atypical journey through uplifting
murk and lurid bliss.
ejaculationdeathrattle.com/

Day Glo Mardi Gras is a joint operation between Ejaculation Death Rattle and Corner. The bands and the set will be decorated with day glo paint and there will be a black light for a vibrant experience for viewers who we will hope will come suitably costumed to the event. Both bands will be exploring the themes of excess and indulgence and encouraging the audience to enter this mental space in the grand traditions of Carnival in Brazil and Mardi Gras in New Orleans. Beads not included. We will provide day glo paint for participants to decorate their face and bodies.

Fieldhead produces ambient/electronic music that delights in tape hiss, geography, bleak landscapes and decaying
analogue loops. Fieldhead’s live show combines the grainy textures and dusty loops married with brevity
Chris Tenz’s music tells tales in a whispering voice set against panoramic soundscapes: it’s the music of aimless
late night neon wanderings that brings to mind Mt. Eerie/Microphones set in a more desolate place.

stunning effect.

Blim presents:

New Works

New work by Allison Karow (aka. sunny)

Opening: 8 – 11 PM, Friday February 3 | Runs February 3 – 25

Sunny is an artist from Phoenix, AZ, currently in the Fine Arts stream of the Master of Applied Arts program at Emily Carr University of Art + Design, here in Vancouver. She has been displaying work in group and solo shows since 2004 and has participated in curating shows in alternative art spaces. She is the founder of a community bike shop in Tempe, AZ and ran a small house/venue, YOBS, for five years with a small group of friends before moving to Vancouver to go back to school.

My work looks at the difficulty of defining the natural. I use hybrids, taxonomy and invented landscapes to build an absurd narrative around a heterotopia where natural and constructed elements become ambiguous. Currently I am exploring drawing as a metaphor for genetic copying; creating creatures and environments based on mutations in the work itself until a biome emerges. I am rooted in the traditions of the handmade but my practice is interdisciplinary and includes painting, drawing, print-making and animation in addition to book binding.

Blim presents:

Because

New work by Christina Kenton and Brody McKnight

Opening: 8 – 11 PM, Friday January 6 | Runs January 6 – 28

First art show between husband and wife involving photography, painting and music. Brody’s new work will explore an idea of chance in movement paired with that of predictibilty in still life. Christina’s paintings will display tons of over lapping color and accents of gore and felines.

Brody was born a baby in Vancouver in 1982.
At 8 years old his family moved north to the small, redneck infested sawmill capital of the world, Quesnel BC. After high school he found himself back in Vancouver, apart of the local music scene playing with Heavy Chains, Sex Negatives, Eating Out and most recently joining Nu Sensae. He is a self-taught photographer who appreciates auto functions. His works has previously been shown at his first solo show at Lucky’s in 2008.

Christina was born in Vancouver April 30 1979.
She has been painting roughly 16 years, self taught and lucky to have grown up around great surrealist art. She works with mostly acrylic and ink on canvas. Her fascination with cold cases and nocturnal paralysis are some of the inspiration behind her work. Besides creating busy, colorful paintings she hand makes lighter covers and free small art booklets. This will be Christina’s 4th art show in Vancouver.

Blim presents:

Chotto Motto

New work by Kaori Kasai

Opening: 8 – 11 PM, Friday December 2 | Runs December 2 – 29

Chotto (little) Motto (more)
Little creatures pop out of Kao's brain around midnight and tell her, “more, more…”. They demand more room, so she puts them onto large canvases. Other creatures do not stop moving, so she makes a short animation of them. Come to BLIM to see Kao's work. Enjoy chotto motto holiday gifts by Kao, including prints, dolls, lucky-charms, and a little more.

Kaori Kasai (a.k.a. Sleepless kao), artist-in-motion, graduated from Setsu Mode, Tokyo, for fashion illustration, traveled to live and work in San Francisco, Hong Kong, and now Vancouver. She creates her own world of eccentric creatures and personalities which bloom into the void: gigantic space dotted with tiny, intimate kinships and spirits bumping into one another, narrating signs of life across a dreamt universe. Her works have been exhibited at gallery 1 (Japan), Giant Robot, Little Otsu and SOMARTS (San Francisco), Compound Gallery (Portland), Helen Pitt Gallery and Blim (Vancouver). In 2007, Kao was invited to accompany the screening of her new animated short “Duet” at San Francisco's Asian American Film Festival and AAIFF (NY). Graduated from BCIT, Burnaby, in New Media Design. Published her 1st children's book, Monchan's Bag for Simply Read Books, Vancouver
