Learn how to safely Discharge Screenprint clothing and textiles!
This advanced silk screening method removes colour from previously dyed fabric by printing with a specially formulated Discharge paste instead of pigment. After the paste has dried, heat activation will magically burn out your designs to a white/natural colour, as though the fabric had been bleached.
No chemical residue will remain in your fabric; the feel stays the same and it isn’t damaged by the bleaching process. Bring in an image to make a new screen and have fun printing in a completely new way!
Kaytee Kilgour is a Vancouver based textile artist specializing in weaving and print. Kaytee has recently completed her Diploma in Textile Arts at Capilano University and she will be continuing her education this fall at Emily Carr to complete her BFA. Much of Kaytee's work revolves around the preservation of memory and tradition, thus Kaytee uses an image of her grandmother's handwoven lace to represent the knowledge within craft and it's significance in contemporary art. Recipient of the 2009 Craft Council of British Columbia Student Award, Kaytee is currently hand dyeing silk to weave a series of silk tapestries which will be shown at Craft House in March 2010. Kaytee is eager to share her textile knowledge with the crafty folks at blim!
