Quilt Applique

Saturday, December 10 | 1 – 5 PM | $65
Featuring: Leah Weinstien

Join textile artist Leah Weinstein in this hands-on workshop exploring machine appliqué methods for contemporary, free-style quilt-making. These practical and creative sewing skills can also be applied to other projects, including clothing. Topics include: basic quilting tools and materials, creating your own design, and basic appliqué methods including basting, cutting, ironing, and sewing. Each participant will design and create a 20″ x 20″ quilt top, which can later be quilted and made into a cushion cover (the “Quilted Cushion Workshop” will follow on December 11th.) Bring your own sewing machine. Materials provided. Beginners welcome!

Leah Weinstein is a Nelson-based textile artist working primarily with quilts. Leah received her Diploma in Fine Art from Emily Carr Institute of Art + Design in 2001, and her BFA in 2008. After making her first quilt in 2001, quilts quickly became the focus of her work. Leah’s extensive travels eventually became her self-directed textile studies, which led her to study natural dyes and organic cotton in India with the company she co-founded, Tenfold Organic Textiles. Leah now works in her home studio and teaches quilting workshops around BC.

Leah will be providing:
Basic sewing tools including: scissors, pins, seam rippers, chalk, 1 iron, 1 sewing machine to demonstrate with, cutting mat, rotary cutting blade, measuring tools, a variety of threads, etc… Material/fabric for each participant—approximately 1 metre of 45″ wide fabric per participant. Participant brings his/her own sewing machine.
