INTERESTED IN MAKING HANDMADE SOAPS?
Using all natural ingredients, pure essential oils and olive oil you will learn how to make your own handmade spa products. You will be provided with handouts and additional soap recipes. After the course you will become a soap and bath fizzier maker and leave the lab with your own handmade beauty products. Additionally we will cover different methods of unique and inspiring soap wrapping techniques to further highlight the products you will have made. After all the variation of courses you will be ready to set up your small soap lab at home. We will be using milk containers for your soap molds, if you want specific shapes and bring your own molds please contact prior to the course. Your soap made in the course will not be ready right away, it needs 48 hours to cure before you can slice them.
- Brief history and basic chemistry of soap making
- Necessary materials, supplies and equipment
- Safety considerations when working with sodium hydroxide
- Taking accurate measurements & proper mixing temperatures
- Coloring soap naturally with herbs, spices & clays
- Using pure essential oils to scent your soap naturally
- Preparing your molds and molding options
- Insulating, cutting, curing and storing your finished soap
Due to the nature of making soap from scratch, this class is mainly demonstration style but students will also have the opportunity to create their own sample bars during the class. You’ll leave with very thorough handouts and enough information to make vegetable-based natural herbal soap from scratch on your own. This class uses only vegan / vegetarian ingredients.
Roberta Wover made her first bar of soap on a dare, won the bet and realized soon afterwards she was a natural. Over the past 5 years she has perfected her hobby as she realized that soapmaking is harmony between art and science and the perfect medium to express her creativity. An award winning pharmacologist who combines her scientific expertise with an obsession for the scents of flowers and the healing properties of plants, Roberta sells her soaps at BLIM’s monthly community markets through her company, RIPE.
